National Wind Watch is a nonprofit organization that promotes awareness of the negative impacts of industrial wind energy development on our environment, economy, and quality of life.
Learn the facts... do take time to read the information on this site. Contributions come from all over the world and will provide you with an excellent overview of the issues surrounding wind farm development.
Conservation Groups
Country Guardian : This is a UK conservation group which, since 1991, has campaigned against the construction of wind turbines in environmentally sensitive areas. We object because wind turbines convert rural landscape into industrial landscape, and because they are a poor source of renewable energy.
Noise created by commercial scale wind turbines has become a major concern around the world as wind power development continues to proliferate. Although the industry claims that modern turbines are quieter, even as they grow ever larger, complaints are increasing from people who live near new projects. The noise is especially intrusive becasue wind farms are often built in rural areas such as ours where the ambient sound levels may be very low, especially at night. Wind turbines produces two types of sound - normal Aerodynamic noise and Low Frequency Infrasound. People living and working near wind turbines have been known to experience health problems including sleep deprivation, headaches, irritability and stress. It is reported that from as far as 2 miles the aerodynamic sound can be heard and felt like the boom boxes teenagers have in their cars
Wind Turbine: Noise and Health: by Dr A Harry. This paper, which examines the issue of possible adverse effects of wind turbines on health, presents the results of a preliminary community survey
Noise Radiation from Wind Turbines Installed near Homes: Effects on Health: by BJ Frey, MA and PJ Hadden, BSc, FRICS. This paper not only reviews the acoustics of wind turbines and the adverse impact of noise on health, but also includes a discussion of human rights issues. In relation to the adverse health effects, the paper considers the basic violation of human rights, if Government puts more importance on achieving an ideological goal than safeguarding the basic human rights of its People.
**Noisy Wind and Hot Air: by Nina Pierpont, MD, PhD. Nina specialises in health effects from living close to industrial wind turbines. In this article she discusses the noise issue, and how to decide what and who to believe
Experiences from Cumbria - Watch the following videos (in order) from Youtube which reflect the experiences of a rural community living with wind turbines.
Biomass Projects in Lincolnshire
There are alternatives to wind power. The Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant is a straw-fired power station to be located near Sleaford. The plant will generate 40MWe using proven, efficient technology specifically designed for the clean combustion of straw. Take a closer look at these plans by selecting the link below.
